A Message from Pastor Shelley

Does time fly for you? It certainly does for me, especially as I grow older. I remember my parents often saying, “The older you get, the faster time goes.” As a child, time felt slow, especially when I was looking forward to something. I thought my parents were exaggerating. But now, I find myself wondering, “Where did the week go? Time is speeding by.” I hear my parents’ voices echoing in my mind.

As time quickly moves forward, I realize the importance of time. I am increasingly aware there is no time to waste. This Lenten season, the Holy Spirit has caused me to reflect more, which is what we are encouraged to do during Lent. You may be wondering, “Pastor, is it too late to think about this? After all, Lent started on March 5th (Ash Wednesday), and that was weeks ago.” In a way, you are correct. However, I believe we should take time every day to reflect upon our relationship with Christ. I believe the actions of Lent should take place within our hearts more often than the 40 days side aside yearly known as Lent. We should set aside time “daily” to examine ourselves as Christ’s followers. Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Did you notice the word “daily” in the passage? The 40 days of Lent helps us focus on our mortality and our relationship with Christ, encouraging us to fast, pray, and repent. These actions of Lent draw us closer to God. The closer we are to God, the closer He is to us, and the more like Christ we become.

My brothers and sisters in Christ, time is passing quickly. More than half of the Lenten season has passed, and Easter is coming soon. As time continues to move forward at an increasingly rapid speed, I encourage you to ask God “daily” how you might grow closer to Him, not just during Lent but all year round. I encourage you to “take up your cross daily and deny yourself.” My prayer for you is the Holy Spirit will reveal Himself to you powerfully, as you reflect, examine, repent, pray, and draw ever closer to our Lord! Time is of the essence! Time is flying by! Are you willing to spend more time with the Lord? The time is now!

Blessings to you always!
